The statistics are heartbreaking. Nearly 1 in 3 mothers in the MidSouth say they can't afford the hundred of diapers needed each month. To combat this, Pediatrics East and various local organizations recently partnered together to collect donations for local families in need.
Dr. Robert Higginbotham recently spoke with Amy Speropoulos about the Bundles for Babies Diaper Drive, hosted by Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, the University of Memphis, and others, and sponsored by Pediatrics East and other local organizaitons. Donations for families in need were collected at various locations around Shelby County, including the five Pediatrics East locations in Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Cordova, and Germantown.
"At Pediatrics East, our main mission is to help take care of children," said Dr. Higginbotham. "We know that we can't take care of all the children in Memphis, but we certainly do everything we can to help. We've been active with many of the local children's hospitals - Le Bonheur, St. Jude - but when this opportunity came up, we thought it would be a great way to branch out and try to help some of the families that we haven't reached before."
"You're very passionate about philanthropy," said Speropoulous. "You're active in the YMCA and a number of other organizations because this is where you live, eat, work, and play as well."
"Exactly, and we love being part of the community," said Higgenbotham.
