Save The Date: Mid South Baby & Kids Expo 2017

Mid South Baby and Kids Expo

After a year hiatus, the Mid South Baby & Kids Expo is back in 2017, and at a new location! Join us on Saturday, April 1 at the Agricenter, from 10AM-3PM. The Expo is $5 per person, with free admission for kids ages 12 and under.

For over a decade, the Expo has been a resource for parents across the Mid South. The Expo offers an array of fun activities, giveaways, and events for the whole family to enjoy. Not only is there plenty of fun, but the Expo also gives expert advice to parents and soon-to-be parents, with doctors and specialists on hand to discuss any questions you have about your children.

Pediatrics East participates in the Baby & Kids Expo because we are your partner in raising happy, healthy kids, no matter what age or stage they are. Whether you are expecting a child for the first time, you are juggling life with multiple kids, or even if you are a grandparent who wants to help out more, we have plenty of suggestions to help you navigate the world of parenting. At our booth, several of our doctors will be available to answer questions and give advice – we invite you to stop by and say hello!

To learn more about what you can expect from the Expo, and how to make the most of your visit after the event is over, read along below.

Who Attends The Expo?

The Baby & Kids Expo brings a wide variety of people, both attendees and event sponsors. Mostly, our attendees are parents or caregivers who want to talk to doctors, learn about the latest kid and baby trends, and access information about child safety and health.

Along with parents, the Expo is, of course, very kid friendly! Kids who attend the Expo can stop by the Kids' Corner, sponsored by Baptist Spence and Becky Wilson Children’s Hospital. Here, kids will enjoy activities, including face painting by Fairies & Frogs, a photo booth featuring popular children’s characters, story time, arts and crafts, and fun with friends.

While kids are welcome, the Expo is mainly made up of soon-to-be or new parents. At the Expo, there are so many people on hand to answer questions and offer advice to those who are a little nervous or overwhelmed by their new role as a parent. First-time parents will benefit from advice found at the following stations:

  • Breastfeeding Zone, sponsored by Memphis Area Lactation Consultant Association (MALCA), Shelby County Breastfeeding Association, and La Leche League International, for information and education on breastfeeding
  • Safety Zone, sponsored by Safe Kids Mid-South, offering instructions on car seat safety and other safety tips
  • Parents' Zone, hosted by Families Matter and Dynamic Dads, with medical professionals available to answer questions

Attendees are also eager to meet experts from other event sponsors and exhibitors, who will share more about their area of expertise and work to help keep parents informed and prepared.

What Happens At The Expo?

Along with the different interactive zones happening throughout the Expo, there is so much to learn and do the entire day. By simply attending the Expo, you are automatically part of the fun. With door prizes given out hourly, prizes awarded at the various zones, and a grand prize – a $500 Visa gift card, announced at the end of the day – everyone who enters the Agricenter doors can be a winner.

Once you’re inside the Expo, fun booths and zones abound for the whole family. Along with the zones we mentioned above, there are some special areas that are particularly nice for moms and moms-to-be. Pickles and Ice Cream, presented by Prairie Farms Dairy, offers special treats for everyone, but especially for expectant mothers! Next, mothers can unwind with Mom’s Relaxation Station, brought to the Expo by Relax Spa Escapes.

When everyone is full and relaxed, head to the stage to see fashion shows demonstrating the latest trends for 2017. This year, the Expo will present a babywearing show and the newest kids' fashions for the summer. In between these activities, the Expo is filled with information on the best products, the latest innovations, and the recommended advice for raising a healthy child.

Especially for new parents, the Expo can help you decide what to purchase for your child (or add to your baby registry), how to navigate the first steps into parenthood, and what to do once you bring your baby home from the hospital.

What Comes After The Expo?

After you have soaked up all the good parenting information that the Expo has to offer, you may wonder: what’s next? Especially for expectant parents, there is a lot of information to remember and let sink in before your little one arrives.

That’s why Pediatrics East is offering follow-up sessions with our free New Parent Classes. On April 11 at our Cordova Pediatrics East office, and May 9 in our Collierville clinic, our doctors will host a free class, open to all parents who have questions.

Often, new parents are only given parenting tips from their own parents and grandparents; sometimes, this advice can seem outdated or questionable when you are raising your own child. Also, many first-time parents prepare themselves for birth and the baby’s arrival, but then they are not sure what to do first when the baby arrives.

Spare yourself the stress by making a list of questions for our class, and talk one-on-one with a pediatrician who can help. During the class, our pediatricians are discuss important topics like breastfeeding, child safety, sleep schedules, how to pick a pediatrician, immunizations, and more.

The group question and answer format allows you to hear answers to questions you may have not even considered, while also asking your own questions. Save a Google search, and come hear expert advice from Memphis’ favorite pediatric group.

We encourage you to come join us, invite friends and family, and learn something new about parenting at the Expo or our upcoming new parent classes. By making a small investment of time now, you will gain parenting knowledge to help raise healthy kids for years to come.
