Upper Elementary
At this age, safety
oftentimes becomes a battle. Some children at this age start taking risks for
excitement. They will do things you told them not to, but they will be
sneaky about it. Most of the time there’s no malice, just
curiosity. If you have built a trusting and respectful relationship with
them you will have an easier time.
Now is when you start getting the grey hairs.
They want more
independence. Their sports, hobbies, and entertainment become more
expensive, possibly than you can afford. You have to balance finances,
safety and control against exploration and maturation. You are not
relinquishing responsibility, so choose carefully.
